ACHIEVEMENTS
1) Over 300 children in Chieng Mai Province in northwest Thailand receive economic and social support from Kids Ark.
2) Kids Ark operates a “House of Hope” in Sansai, a suburb of Chiang Mai that provides after-school care for up to 70 children, six days a week and during the summer holidays. At the House of Hope the children receive academic assistance, educational extra-curricular activities, hygiene care and a nutritious meal. This additional care has made a decisive difference in the academic performance, health and well-being of these children.
3) A day care centre in one mountain village has been constructed by Kids Ark and 36 children are now attending school and receiving a nutritious lunch. This program was operated by Kids Ark for five years, and is now being run by the Thai Government.
4) Housing for teachers has been constructed at Ban Wanaluang School. Kids Ark also built urgently needed dormitories to enable children who live far away to attend the school. Ban Wanaluang School is considered a “special opportunity school” for hill tribe children.
5) Kids Ark has built a center for local handicraft production at BanPong Hi and is teaching villagers to produce high-quality items for sale. See our “Products” page for more information on how to purchase these products.
6) The Red Lahu Reproductive Health Project which funded the visits of instructors to remote villages, to provide information on ST D I's (including HIV) and other hygiene and health matters in the Lahu language.
7) Assisting the Red Lahu people form an organization of 189 villages so that they are able to have one "political voice".
8) Assisiting a Red Lahu village start and operate an eco-trekking operation, with focus on introducing the trekkers to the Lahu way of life; the trekkers are introduced to edible plants gathered along the way and which are then cooked in bamboo for lunch. The villagers also explain their culture and their beliefs. |
