HOUSES OF HOPE

A SAFE, NURTURING PLACE TO GO

ABOUT HOUSES OF HOPE

Despite Thailand’s economic growth, many Thai and ethnic minority children live in extreme poverty and face enormous challenges. They have limited access to health and education, leaving them vulnerable and at a disadvantage.

These children are more susceptible to entering a high-risk trade, staying home to work, marrying young, or succumbing to various forms of trafficking or sexual exploitation, further perpetuating the cycle of poverty they find themselves in.

At Kids Ark we believe knowledge is the most effective weapon against the pitfalls that lure so many disadvantaged youth, simply because they lack the resources and opportunities necessary to advance themselves.

Children can attend one of our three House of Hope after-school programs where they are embraced by a community of teachers, staff leaders, their peers and wonderful cooks who prepare nutritious meals. There the children receive homework help and participate in a variety of other educationally-based learning opportunities, such as: computer techniques; handicraft; self-defense; health and hygiene; life skills; gardening; cooking; sports; language skills and other esteem-building games and activities. Today, Kids Ark operates three Houses of Hope and one Daycare Center which serve over 200 children.

SANSAI HOUSE OF HOPE

LOCATION: Sansai District, Chiang Mai
ESTABLISHED: 2006

The House of Hope, Sansai is associated with the Jiratiwat Uppatham School in Mae Hug Puttana Village. It became Kids Ark’s largest House of Hope after merging House of Hope 1 and 3.

Kids Ark works with educators to identify the most disadvantaged Thai and ethnic minority children who they believe would benefit from attending our after-school programs. Our House of Hope communities provide a clean and safe environment where the children can grow and thrive. In Sansai, as at our other Houses of Hope, the children participate in a variety of activities and enjoy a nutritious meal.

MAE AI HOUSE OF HOPE

In 2015 the local Thai authorities communicated to Kids Ark the need for a new House of Hope in the village of Baan Hauy Poo, a small, rural village outside of Ban Jalor. As in our other House of Hope programs, the children participate in a variety of educationally-based, esteem-building activities and receive a nutritious meal. With the support of generous donors, the House of Hope, Mai Ai was established.

ROBIN’S HOUSE OF HOPE

LOCATION: Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai
ESTABLISHED: 2021

Robin’s House of Hope was named in honor of a young Swedish man, Robin Sinisalo. After visiting Thailand with his mother and brother a couple of times, Robin dreamt of returning to Thailand to work with disadvantaged children, inspired by those he met during his travels. Robin also hoped to work toward reducing violence among young people in Stockholm. It mattered not if he was in the rural villages of Thailand or the urban confines of Stockholm, what Robin saw was kids yearning for a better life and he wanted to make a difference.

Tragically, Robin and his brother became victims of the violence they sought to change. At the early age of 15, Robin was shot and killed. His brother, Alejandro, was also shot. Alejandro survived his injuries.

Robin’s mother, Carolina, and Robin´s brother, Alejandro, in conjunction with Kids Ark and Kids Future, support Robin’s House of Hope as a tribute to this big-hearted young man and his ambitions to make a better life possible for those less fortunate than himself.
